A good host these days is hard to find. Introducing a new way to upload pics

Picture hosts don't have it easy: they have enormous storage and bandwidth costs, plus we take them for granted until they have technical problems and hundreds of posts suddenly break. That's why there have been so few of them, much to the distress of us at /r/pics as well as users who want more choiceToday reddit has chosen /r/pics and a few other subs to beta-test their new image hosting service, one where you can upload pics from your computer directly on the "Submit an image" page without having to host them somewhere else first. You'll see it as a big "UPLOAD A FILE" button under the URL field. When you use this, you won't need to put in any other URL.Edit: /u/powerlanguage just provided this gif to explain how it works. Some of its features:Upload images (up to 20MB) and gifs (100MB) directly to Reddit when submitting a link.Click on a Reddit-hosted image from any listing (such as the frontpage, a subreddit, or userpage) and be taken directly to the conversation and comments about that image.View gifs within Reddit’s native apps with less taps and without leaving the app.Pics submitted this way will be hosted on reddit's servers at i.redd.it and will be associated with your post. In fact, if you make a mistake or change your mind, deleting your post will also delete the pic at the same time. More about this service can be found in the official announcement here.Other Good Hosts/r/pics will continue to accept posts from other well known free picture hosts, including (but not limited to):imgur.comupdrop.it (New to /r/pics, give it a try)500px (Geared toward professional photographers)Pixabay(Suggestions welcome for more!)And if you're a professional photographer or artist who wants the best control over your posts and have your own web site that you want to host your work from, you can still apply for our Verified Photographer flair. via /r/pics http://ift.tt/20wmS7G
